California received 19 first-place votes and remained atop the first regular season release of the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 poll.

The Golden Bears have been hampered by the weather, only playing one game so far this season, a 6-0 win over Bay Area-rival San Jose State.

Arizona, off to a 6-0 start, is ranked second, switching places with Pac-10 rival UCLA, which has dropped games to unranked Cal State Fullerton and Syracuse in the opening weeks of the season.

Stanford is up two spots to No. 4, followed by Louisiana-Lafayette, which rounds out the top five.

A pair of Southeastern Conference powers occupy the No. 6 and No. 7 spots, respectively. Alabama is off to an 11-0 start while Tennessee is 8-0, including a 3-0 mark against Top 25 competition.

Michigan remained No. 8, while LSU dropped four spots to No. 9. Texas cracked the top 10 after a 3-0 start. The Longhorns sit two points shy of LSU.

Baylor is No. 11, followed by Washington, Georgia, Oklahoma and Oregon. Florida is off to its best start in school history, and debuts in the poll at No. 16, followed by Georgia Tech, Florida State, Nebraska and Oregon State.

The last five ranked teams are Fresno State, Long Beach State, Texas A&M, Florida International and Illinois. FIU and Illinois both received 54 points and are tied for the 24th position.

Three teams dropped out of this week's poll. South Florida fell out from No. 21 after a 5-5 start, Southern Illinois went 2-1 to begin the season and dropped out from No. 24, and preseason No. 25 Hofstra dropped out despite not playing a game.
