California won four games last week at the UNLV Invitational and remains No. 1 in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll, released today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The Golden Bears (5-0) have yet to surrender a run this season and have outscored opponents 35-0. Cal hosts Santa Clara in a midweek doubleheader Wednesday before participating in this weekend’s Palm Springs Invitational, where they will face a pair of top ten teams in Tennessee and Texas.
Arizona remains second in this week’s tabbing, receiving four of the 28 available first-place votes. The Wildcats will play in Baylor’s Compass Bank Invitational this weekend.
UCLA defeated Georgia for the third time this season and remained in the No. 3 spot. Stanford went 4-0 last week and remains No. 4, while Tennessee continues its best start in school history at 13-0 and rounds out the top five.
Louisiana-Lafayette dropped one spot to No. 6 after falling to Nicholls State in extra innings. No. 7 Alabama dropped a game to upstart Missouri but rebounded to win the Crimson Classic.
Michigan remained eighth while Texas and LSU swapped places in the poll at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively. Louisiana-Lafayette, Alabama, Michigan and LSU highlight the field at the 10th Annual NFCA Leadoff Classic.
Baylor remained 11th, followed by Washington, Oklahoma, Florida and unbeaten Georgia Tech.
Georgia dropped to 6-6 on the season and is ranked 16th. Nebraska follows at No. 17, while Oregon, Texas A&M and Florida International close out the top 20.
The last five ranked teams are Florida State, Oregon State, Long Beach State, Missouri and Fresno State.
