USA Today/NFCA Top 25 PollUSA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll 

Tennessee claimed 28 first-place votes to maintain its hold on the top position in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 PollUSA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll, the association announced Wednesday. 

The Lady Vols improved to 9-0 on the season after garnering the program’s first No. 1 national ranking a week ago. 

Arizona State received two first-place votes to maintain its place at No. 2. The Sun Devils stayed unbeaten, moving to 13-0 on the 2007 campaign. 

Texas A&M, who jumped into the top 10 last week, improved one spot to third, leaping an Arizona squad the Aggies knocked off during the season’s opening weekend. 

Alabama remained in the top five at No. 5, while Oregon State jumped up one place to sixth. Northwestern fell a notch to seventh, while LSU stayed in the No. 8 spot despite being dealt its first loss of the year. 

A pair of Big 12 schools round out the top 10, with Oklahoma jumping three places to No. 9, while Texas remained in the 10th position after leaping seven spots a week ago. 

A week removed from falling out of the top 10, Stanford improved two places to 11th, while UCLA fell three more spots to 12th. Michigan advanced one place to No. 1, while Louisiana-Lafayette climbed two notches to 14th after winning its home tournament this past weekend. 

Washington stayed at No. 15, while fellow Pac-10 competitor California dropped five places to No. 16. Baylor and Georgia held steady at Nos. 17 and 18, respectively, while Florida advanced one place to 19th. Florida State moved into the top 20 at No. 20, advancing two places following another solid week. 

Nebraska dropped two places to 21st, and Fresno State fell one place to No. 22. A pair of newcomers, N.C. State and Southern Illinois, round out this week’s poll along with Massachusetts.
