USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll
Tennessee received all 30 first-place votes to remain the No. 1 team in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll
, the association announced Wednesday.
The Lady Vols posted a 6-0 week, including wins over Fresno State and UCLA, to move to 15-0 overall on the year.
Arizona State remained at No. 2 despite dropping its first game of the season, a 5-2 setback to Northwestern. Pac-10 foe Arizona jumped back into the third position after falling to fourth a week ago. The Wildcats switched spots with Texas A&M after handing the Aggies their first two losses during their three-game series last weekend.
Alabama held steady at No. 5 after moving to 16-0 on the year, while another SEC squad, LSU, moved into the No. 7 spot to drop Northwestern to No. 8. Oklahoma, off to a perfect start to the year, jumped up three places to sixth.
Stanford returned to the top 10 at No. 9, while Texas stayed at No. 10.
Oregon State dropped out of the top 10, slipping five places to No. 11. The Beavers sit just ahead of UCLA, who remained at No. 12. Michigan stayed in the No. 13 slot after claiming a share of the NFCA Leadoff Classic title with Georgia Tech, who debuted in the poll at No. 24.
Louisiana-Lafayette and Washington did not move from last week’s rankings, holding at Nos. 14 and 15, respectively. Baylor moved up one place to 16th after a 5-2 week that included a win over Florida. Despite the loss to the Bears, the Gators still advanced two places to No. 17.
California dropped two places to No. 18, while Florida State moved up one slot to No. 19. Southern Illinois moved into the top 20 at No. 20 after a 4-1 Leadoff Classic that included a victory over the Seminoles.
Georgia slipped three places to No. 21, while Oregon moved into the poll at No. 22 after reeling off 15-straight victories. Nebraska dropped two places to 23rd, while the Yellow Jackets and Hawaii round out the poll at Nos. 24 and 25, respectively.
