Michigan received 18 first-place voted to maintain the top spot in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll, the association announced Wednesday.

Heading into its opening weekend of action, the Wolverines keep a hold on the No. 1 spot for the 10th straight poll dating back to Mar. 23, 2005. The UM run marks the longest consecutive run for a team at the top spot since UCLA held No. 1 from Jan. 24, 2001, to Apr. 18, 2001.

The Bruins, who opened last weekend 5-0, received seven first-place nods to hold on to second.

Arizona, Tennessee and Texas all stayed in the top five, although the order changed somewhat. The Wildcats, who opened the season with a 6-0 mark that included wins over nationally ranked Northwestern, Texas and Texas A&M, moved to third. With the loss to UA, the Longhorns rebounded with wins over Northwestern, Stanford, Syracuse and Wisconsin but dropped one spot to No. 5. Tennessee dropped one place to No. 4 despite staring the 2006 campaign at 3-0.

Alabama, California, Stanford and Texas A&M all held their original spots at Nos. 6-8, respectively. Oklahoma joined the top 10 as a 4-1 start jumped the Sooners two places in the poll.

Washington moved up two places to No. 11, while Northwestern jumped up four spots to No. 12. After opening with a 3-1 mark, Georgia fell out of the top 10 to No. 13 while Oregon State moved up a spot to No. 14 and Baylor fell four places to 15th.

Louisiana-Lafayette jumped a couple of spots to No. 16, and Nebraska moved into the top 20 at 17th. Oregon matched Nebraska’s four-place jump, leaping from 22nd to 18th.

Iowa made the biggest move in the poll, using a 4-1 start to jump five places to No. 19. Auburn rounded out the top 20, dropping three spots to No. 20.

DePaul fell seven places to No. 21, while Arizona State moved into the poll at No. 22. Missouri, who took two of three from Georgia Tech, held on to No. 23, and North Carolina moved into the poll at No. 24.

Another newcomer to the poll, LSU, tied for 25th along with Fresno State, who stayed in the poll after falling from No. 20.
