Tennessee extended its run atop the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll
l to 11 consecutive weeks, giving it the second-longest No1 run in the poll’s 13-year history.
The Lady Vols, winners of 25 straight games, received all but one first-place vote as they moved a week shy of matching the longest run of 12 weeks set by Arizona in 1998, UCLA in 1999 and Washington in 2000.
The other first-place vote went to Southeastern Conference foe Alabama, who stayed in the No. 2 position with a 46-4 record. The SEC kept a third team in the top 10, as LSU remained at No. 6.
The Big 12 also placed three squads in the top 10, with Oklahoma leading the pack as it moved up one place to third. The Sooners switched spots with Arizona, who dropped one notch to fourth. Texas A&M and Baylor joined OU in the top 10, coming in at Nos. 5 and 10, respectively.
Arizona stayed at No. 7, just ahead of Big Ten foes Northwestern and Michigan who remained at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively.
The Pac-10 maintained control of the Nos. 11-13 positions, with Washington leading the way followed by UCLA and Oregon State.
Hawaii used a series win over Fresno State to vault two places to No. 14, while DePaul won its 16th straight game to climb two places to 15th.
Oregon slipped two places to No. 16, coming in just ahead of Stanford, who moved up one place to No. 17 this week. Texas dropped three places this week to land at No. 18, while Southern Illinois moved up one place to 19th.
Florida jumped two places to No. 20 this week, while Georgia Tech made a three-spot leap to No. 21. Louisiana-Lafayette fell one place to No. 22, followed by Virginia Tech at No. 23 and Illinois State at No. 24.
N.C. State moved back into the rankings this week following its weekend sweep of in-state rival North Carolina.
