USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll
Arizona received all but one first-place vote to maintain the No. 1 position in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Softball Poll, the association announced Wednesday.
While Arizona retained the top spot with a 20-1 mark, the remainder of the top four held steady from last week with Texas at No. 2, Tennessee, who received the other first-place vote, at No. 3, and UCLA in the fourth position.
Stanford and Alabama switched places again this week, with the Cardinal vaulting into fifth while the Tide dropped one place to sixth. California held the No. 7 position again this week, while Oregon State continued its stellar run and improved one place to No. 8. Michigan fell to No. 9, and Louisiana-Lafayette moved into the top 10 at the No. 10 spot with a 13-0 start.
Despite suffering its first set-back on the season, Arizona State used a 6-1 week to advance two spots to No. 11. Georgia held on at No. 12, while the biggest jump in the poll came from an LSU squad that knocked off Oklahoma twice in winning the Norman Invitational and leaped six places to No. 13. The Sooners, previously ranked No. 10, fell four places to No. 14.
Nebraska continued its upward climb, taking a 12-2 start on the season and moving up two spots to No. 15. Northwestern held steady at 16th, while Washington dropped two places to No. 17.
Baylor moved up two spots to No. 18, while Auburn dropped a place to 19th. Texas A&M rounded out the top 20 after dropping six positions from its previous No. 14 ranking.
Louisville and DePaul stayed 21st and 22nd, respectively, while Mississippi State made its first appearance since Mar. 6, 2002, at No. 23. Oregon and North Carolina each dropped a spot to round out the top 25 at Nos. 24 and 25, respectively.
