NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll
Preseason No. 1 Lock Haven received five of the eight first-place votes to remain atop the first regular season NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll
, the association announced Wednesday.
LHU has jumped out to a 3-1 start to the campaign to rank ahead of Alabama-Huntsville, who moved up 10 places from the preseason rankings after starting the 2007 campaign with an 18-5 mark.
Angelo State, one of eight newcomers in the first regular season rankings, debuted in the No. 3 spot behind a 19-5 record that included the Schutt Sports Leadoff Classic championship.
ASU, who received two first-place nods, sits in a tie for third with Cal State Stanislaus. Stanislaus also received a first-place vote, moving up 11 places following a 17-3 start to the campaign.
Columbus State, off to a phenomenal 15-2 mark, moved up 10 places to fifth, while Emporia State fell three places to No. 6 after a 10-6 start to the year. Humboldt State, 14-3 to start the 2007 season, also dropped three places this week to seventh.
SIU-Edwardsville remained in the top 10 at No. 8, while Valdosta State used a 10-2 start to the year to move into the rankings at No. 9. St. Mary’s also debuted in the poll this week, coming in at No. 10 after kicking off 2007 18-6.
A pair of preseason top 10 selections fell out of the first 10 slots, as Georgia College & State and Florida Southern fell to Nos. 11 and 12, respectively.
Caldwell moved up to No. 13, a jump of eight places, while Nebraska-Omaha slipped three places to No. 14. Weather has kept both teams from hitting the field thus far in 2007.
Shippensburg jumped up five places to 15th after kicking off the campaign with a 5-1 mark, while Hawaii-Hilo debuted in the poll at No. 16. Bloomsburg and Gannon sit at Nos. 17 and 18, while Texas A&M-Kingsville and USC Upstate both earned their first rankings in a tie for 19th.
Florida Gulf Coast, Northwest Missouri State, Le Moyne, Barry and Carson-Newman round out the top 25, which will be produced weekly this season.
