Ithaca has taken the top spot in the first NFCA Division III regular season poll, the association announced Wednesday. The Bombers have yet to play a game and open Friday against No. 8 Chapman in the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic in Panama City Beach, Fla.
Preseason No. 1 Muskingum drops one spot after starting 3-1 while Washington-St. Louis, another untested team, comes in at No. 3.
After starting 3-1, Linfield jumps two spots to No. 4, as does Wartburg to No. 6 and St. Thomas to No. 7. Wisconsin-Eau Claire moves two spots in the opposite direction to No. 7. Wartburg is 2-0, while the Tommies and Blugolds open play this weekend at the Leadoff Classic.
Chapman, at 10-3, is followed by 8-1 Louisiana College, another Leadoff Classic participant. Ramapo, who has yet to play rounds out the top 10, followed by 4-0 Moravian.
Plattsburgh State, at 3-1, and Gustavus Adolphus, at 2-0, are tied at No. 12, and untested Williams follows at No. 14. At 8-2, No. 15 Emory follows, followed by Illinois Wesleyan, who has yet to play.
2006 national champion Rutgers-Camden falls 15 spots to No. 16 after starting 2-2, and University of Redlands follows at 5-3. Greensboro makes its first appearance in the poll after a strong 13-1 start and is followed by untested Cortland State and Hope.
No. 22 Coe is 3-1, followed by Methodist. Rowan and Roanoke round out the top 25 after both starting 3-1.
