High School Top 25 Poll
Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City, Texas) went 6-0 at the Bullhead City Tournament of Champions, defeating four teams ranked in the national top 10 - Pacifica, Mater Dei, Clovis and Flowing Wells to capture the tournament title and remain a solid No. 1 in the latest release of the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 Poll.
Elkins was followed by tournament runner-ups Flowing Wells (Tucson, Ariz.) and Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) Both teams dropped their first games of the season at the national gala in Bullhead City, Ariz.
Hillcrest (Simpsonville, S.C.) owns the nation's longest current winning streak, now at 80 games. The Rams moved up to No. 4 in this weeks poll, and are followed by 2003 national champion Bartow (Fla.)
Clovis (Calif.) is No. 6, and is followed by Cactus (Glendale, Ariz.), La Porte (Texas) and Carroll (Southlake, Texas). Pacifica (Garden Grove, Calif.) rounds out the top ten.
Santiago (Corona, Calif.) dropped a contest to Norco and fell to No. 11. Norco moved up to No. 14, just behind St. Amant (La.) and Hollywood Christian (Fla.). Freedom (Oakley, Calif.) went 3-3 at the Tournament of Champions and dropped to 15th.
Four of the next five ranked teams sport undefeated records, led by Baker (Mobile, Ala.). the Honeybees have won a national-leading 28 games this season, and are proceeded by St. Thomas Aquinas (Melbourne, Fla.), Keller (Texas) and Notre Dame (Salinas, Calif.)
Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) and Clovis West (Calif.) make their debuts in this year's poll at No. 20 and No. 21, respectively. Owensboro Catholic begins their season later this month and is ranked No. 22.
Centennial (Phoenix) is off to a 5-0 start and debuts at 23rd. Brighton (Mich.) remains No. 24 while Central Cabarrus (Concord, N.C.) is ranked No. 25.
