LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lynbrook’s (N.Y.) Bianca Lobosco, New Bremen’s (Ohio) Alayna Ross, Panther Creek’s (N.C.) Layla Lamar, Oxford’s (Kan.), Kira Selenke and University Prep’s (Calif.) Dani Jackman were named MaxPreps / NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played April 8-14.
Over the course of four games, Lobosco batted .824 (10-for-13), homered in each game and registered 20 RBI. She also doubled three times, scored 12 runs and slugged 2.153. Lobsoco notched a season-best eight RBI and sent two balls over the fence against East Rockaway. The junior added two doubles, a home run and six RBI versus Great Neck North. She also scored four runs in each of those matchups.
Ross went 2-0 with a pair of shutouts, striking out 29, walking one and surrendering just three hits over 12 innings. She also helped herself out offensively, going 5-for-7 with three doubles, two home runs and five RBI. The senior hurler blanked Crestview on one hit, striking out 16 and not walking a batter in a 4-0 win. Against Jackson Center, Ross fanned 13 and walked one in a two-hit, five inning shutout. She homered in each contest and collected three RBI in the win over Jackson Center.
Lamar slugged an astounding 3.111 with six home runs, a double, nine runs scored and 15 RBI. She was perfect at the plate with nine base hits and one walk. Lamar launched four of those long balls and drove in 10 against Middle Creek. She also homered against Rolesville and Cary, knocking in four and scoring four runs in the latter contest.
Selenke hit .882 (15-for-17) with three doubles, three triples, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored. In a doubleheader sweep of Central, she went 8-for-8 with two doubles, two triples and 10 RBI. Selenke drove in a season-best seven runs in game two against the Raiders. She was a home run short of the cycle with two RBI in game one versus Udall and followed with four hits and four runs scored in game two.
Jackman was 9-for-9 and reached base in all 12 plate appearances. She recorded two doubles, three home runs (one in each game), 10 RBI, seven runs and a 2.222 slugging percentage. The senior capped off her week going 5-for-5 with two doubles, a long ball and seven RBI in the second of two contests versus Big Bear. Jackman scored a season-best four runs in the first of those contests against the Bears.
