LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Hale Ray’s (Conn.) Lily Jahne, Roncalli’s (Ind.) Natalie Summers, Central Christian’s (Ala.) Josie Lintz, St. Joseph’s (Ark.) Ashlynne Vote and Jackson’s (Wash.) Yanina Sherwood were named MaxPreps / NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played April 1-7.
Jahne was perfect in two starts, striking out 26 of 30 batters she faced over 10 innings of work. In both her starts, she retired all 15 batters and fanned 13. At the plate, the sophomore hurler was 4-for-6 (.667) with three doubles, four RBI and seven runs scored. She did earn four free passes and posted a .800 on-base percentage.
Over Roncalli’s first five games, Summers hit .818 (9-for-11) with a double, three home runs, nine RBI and 12 runs scored. She also drew five walks, contributing to her .882 on-base percentage, and swiped four bases. In the season opener versus Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, Summers homered and drove in five runs. The junior left the yard twice, doubled, recorded three RBI and scored three times against Owen Valley.
Lintz drove in 19 runs behind nine extra-base hits while slugging an astronomical 2.545 with three doubles, three triples and three long balls. She hit .909 (10-for-11), scored 10 times and reached base at a .917 clip. The sophomore exploded in the third game of the week with a double, two homers and nine RBI against East Hills Christian (Fla.). Lintz also recorded five RBI versus Aletheia Christian Academy (Fla.) and Christian Collegiate Academy (Miss.), leaving the yard and doubling twice against Aletheia.
Vote batted .917 (11-for-12) and slugged 2.000 over three games last week. She registered six doubles, two triples, a home run, nine RBI and 10 runs scored. Vote was a triple shy of the cycle against Nemo Vista, going 5-for-5 with three doubles, a home run, four RBI and six runs scored. She added both her triples, three RBI and four runs in a 4-for-4 outing in a win over Sacred Heart.
Sherwood twirled three shutouts, struck out 35 with no walks and posted a 3-0 mark in the circle last week. She notched a five-inning perfect game against Arlington, fanning 11 of 15 batters. Sherwood also pitched one- and two-hit shutouts versus Ballard and Stanwood with 14 and 10 punchouts, respectively. Additionally, she helped herself out at the plate, batting .500 (4-for-8) with two home runs and six RBI.
