LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Melissa added two more victories to strengthen its hold on the No. 1 spot in the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The (27-0) Cardinals blanked Lovejoy, 10-0 last Friday, and McKinney North, 16-0 on Monday, to extend their shutout streak to six games. Melissa hasn’t allowed a run in 15 of its last 16 contests. Thursday’s opponent, Walnut Grove, was the last team to score on the Cardinals, plating four runs in an 8-4 Melissa victory on March 26.
The next seven teams kept pace, going a combined 12-0 over the past week, to remain in the same order. Both No. 3 Summerville (20-0) and No. 8 Owyhee (17-0) won three games apiece, while seventh-ranked Bishop O’Connell (11-0) collected two victories.
Donovan Catholic (7-0) and poll newcomer Lincoln-Way Central (10-0) round out the revised top 10.
Fellow Illinois school Lincoln-Way East (11-0) made its debut in the No. 12 spot. Skyview (14th) and Cheshire (19th) are the other new teams this week.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule.
