LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Calvary Baptist Academy kept winning to strengthen its grip on the top spot in the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Association announced on Thursday.
The five-time reigning Louisiana state champion (16-0) Cavaliers allowed just one run over the last week while scoring 23, and have now won 22 straight games, including their four victories in the Division III Select tournament to close out 2025. Calvary blanked Lutcher, 8-0, and Riverside Academy, 12-0, on Saturday, then topped Bullard, 3-1, on Monday.
Fellow unbeaten Orange Beach (8-0), which has won five straight state titles across two classifications, moved up to No. 2 following a 5-0 week. The Makos scored nine or more runs in all but one contest, and reached at least 11 runs in three of the five.
Reigning Alabama state 7A titlist Thompson (17-0-1) had its win streak stopped at 14 with last Thursday’s 6-6 tie with St. Clair County, but won its other five games to gain a spot to No. 3.
Undefeated Murrieta Mesa (12-0) jumps into the rankings at No. 4 in recognition of its strong start. After Lake Creek (20-1) at No. 5, JSerra Catholic (10-1) debuts at sixth, Clyde (16-0) is the new No. 7 and Desert Vista (10-1) jumps into the mix at eighth. Kingwood (19-2) and Montverde Academy (8-1) round out the top 10.
No. 15 Owyhee (1-0) made a statement with its 10-0 opening victory over Eagle on Wednesday, which extended its win streak to 42 games.
Two losses apiece dropped last week’s No. 2 and 5 teams — Norco (7-2) and Hewitt-Trussville (16-2) — all the way to 16th and 17th, respectively.
No. 21 Barbers Hill (21-3) breezed through its week, winning three games by a combined 36-0 margin.
Four ranked squads are poised to open their seasons in the coming week.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule.
