LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Orange Beach is the No. 1 team in the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a third straight week, the Association announced on Thursday.
The five-time reigning Alabama state champion (31-1) Makos, who have won crowns every year of their school’s short existence, blitzed St. Michael Catholic, 16-0 Tuesday, in their only game this past week. Orange Beach returns to action later today with a game against Spanish Fort.
Meanwhile, past No. 1 team Calvary Baptist Academy (34-1) gained a spot to second, and unbeaten South Warren (25-0) moved up three places to No. 3 following Murrieta Mesa’s 10-5 loss on Tuesday to Vista Murrieta.
Lake Creek (29-1) won its Texas Class 5A, Division 2 bi-district game to remain fourth, ahead of Murrieta Mesa (20-1) in fifth, Skyline (15-0) at No. 6 and Melissa (27-2) in seventh.
Owyhee’s one-run loss to Eagle dropped the (20-2) Storm from fifth to No. 8, while Gray Collegiate (22-0) and Carterville (23-0) rounded out the top 10 and lead a line of four straight unbeaten squads that includes No. 11 Marist (18-0) and No. 12 Destiny Christian (17-0).
Caldera (15-0) remained perfect and entered the poll for the first time this season at No. 20.
Losses dropped La Salle Academy (9-1) and Montverde Academy (17-4) in the rankings, and two defeats in three games dropped Desert Mountain (19-5-1) out.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule.
