LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The first 15 teams in the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll remain unchanged this week, the Association announced on Thursday.
The rankings continue to be led by Alabama’s Orange Beach (46-1) and Louisiana’s Cavalry Baptist Academy (37-1), who both captured a sixth consecutive state title earlier this season.
Undefeated South Warren (40-0) and Lake Creek (39-1) kept pace with the top two as they navigate state playoffs in Kentucky and Texas, respectively. South Warren rolled past Franklin-Simpson, 14-0 on Wednesday, while the Lions start a best-of-three Class 5A, Division 2 state finals series with Brewer on Saturday after finishing a semifinal sweep of Liberty Hill late last week.
No. 6 Gray Collegiate (31-0) has its own state championship series starting today in South Carolina. The War Eagles will face A.C. Flora in a best-of-three for the Class 4A crown.
Tenth-ranked Skyline (22-1) shut out Graham-Kapowsin, 7-0 on Saturday, to capture the Washington state 4A championship, while then-No. 16 Doral Academy (26-3) fell in the Florida 6A semis to eventual state runner-up Bartow, and No. 25 Thompson (46-3-2) lost to Hewitt-Trussville last Thursday in the Alabama state 7A championship series.
No. 18 Weddington (26-0) gained two spots this week after winning the first game of its best-of-three North Carolina state 7A finals series with D.H. Conley, 1-0 on Wednesday.
Following its 5-1 ranked victory over then-No. 22 Donovan Catholic (25-2) in last Thursday’s Shore Conference final, new No. 17 St. John Vianney (26-0) and the Griffins both open New Jersey state tournament play on Friday with South Jersey Group A quarterfinal contests. Fellow Garden State squad Mount St. Dominic Academy (No. 22) similarly starts the North Jersey playoffs with a quarterfinal game on Friday against either Newark Academy or Oak Knoll.
No. 23 Lake Central (25-2) plays Munster in the Indiana 4A state semis later today.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule.
