LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The top eight teams remained the same in the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a second straight week, led by the unbeaten trio of East Coweta, Pocola and Gretna.
Those first three schools went a combined 12-0, with top-ranked East Coweta (23-0) rolling past three more teams and No. 2 Pocola (21-0) blanking its last three opponents 30-0.
Third-ranked Gretna (23-0), meanwhile, captured its second title in the last three weeks, adding Saturday’s Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament crown to its NFCA Kaiti Williams Leadoff championship, which was its second win there in the past three seasons. The Dragons have reached the Kaiti Williams final all three years, finishing runner-up to Papillion-LaVista in 2023.
The lone newcomer in the Top 25 is Georgia’s Lassiter (14-4), which defeated two ranked teams — then-No. 9 Wesleyan and then-No. 14 Pope —by a combined 19-3 margin this week. It was the 19th-ranked Trojans' second shutout of Pope this season, following a 2-0 triumph on Aug. 21.
Missouri’s Washington (10-7) lost three more times and dropped out.
State rankings submitted by the 2024 NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule.
