LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Buford did not allow a run for another week to remain perfect and atop the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a fifth straight week.

The (30-0) Wolves scored 26 combined runs for a trio of games to reach 30 wins and extend their stellar stretch to 52 victories in their last 54 contests. Buford defeated Eastside 5-0 last Thursday and Colquitt County 7-0 and 14-0 on Monday in a first-round Georgia playoff series.

No. 3 Lincoln Southwest (33-3) stayed steady behind Buford and Iowa state titlist Van Meter with a pair of wins on Wednesday as the Nebraska Class A playoffs got underway. The Silver Hawks defeated Bellevue East and Omaha Westside to cap a 4-0 week and reach today’s bracket final.

Fourth-ranked East Coweta (26-3) captured both its games and has a best-of-three Georgia playoff series with Cherokee starting Monday. Meanwhile, Broomfield (20-2) and Millard North (34-4) both leapfrogged Dale (20-3), which was knocked out in the first round of the Oklahoma Class 2A tournament. University (21-2), Wesleyan (24-3) and Choctaw (29-3) round out the top 10.

Gretna (27-8), which spent the first two weeks of the season ranked No. 1, slipped to 20th after a 9-1 loss to Papillion-LaVista in the first round of the Nebraska Class A, Bracket 1 tournament.

State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
