LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Buford won its 44th straight game to keep rolling atop the GameChanger/NFCA Summer-Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Association announced on Thursday afternoon.
The (12-0) Wolves dominated Mill Creek and Seckinger by a combined 31-9 margin before scoring a much-closer 5-2 triumph over Walnut Grove on Wednesday. They have now won 52 of their last 53, dating back to last year’s Georgia 6A state championship run. Buford plays Villa Rica and Houston County to open the two-day Harris County Invitational on Friday.
Meanwhile, Lone Grove (23-0) and Blanchard (21-0) stayed unbeaten and steady in the top three, while Windsor (8-0) moved up to fourth after doubling its season win total this week by outscoring its four opponents 66-0. Newcomer Broken Arrow (22-0) rounds out the top five.
Through no fault of their own, Enid (21-0) slipped two spots to sixth, ahead of the unchanged trio of Hastings (12-2), Grain Valley (8-0) and Erie (8-1).
Grand Island Northwest (9-1) surged 11 places to 10th after its second straight perfect week. The Vikings have outscored their opponents 90-30 over their first 10 contests this season.
Three of the other five new teams occupy the next four positions. Warner and Troy-Buchanan are 11th and 12th, while Fort Zumwalt West jumps into the mix at No. 14.
Perennial poll participant Blue Springs South (7-4) is ranked for the first time this season at No. 20 and Legend (7-2) is 21st.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the GameChanger/NFCA Summer-Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
