LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Another unbeaten week kept Lone Grove perfect and in the No. 1 position in the GameChanger/NFCA Summer-Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a second straight week, the Association announced on Thursday afternoon.
The (32-0) Longhorns allowed just one run while scoring 50 over their six victories this week. They went 4-0 at the Branson (Mo.) Festival, then blanked both Byng and Sulphur the past two days.
Meanwhile, the next five teams kept winning to keep pace — and place — in an unchanged first six. Blanchard (27-0), Windsor (16-0), Broken Arrow (29-0), Enid (30-0) and Grain Valley (17-0) round out the six undefeated teams in the rankings.
Colorado schools Erie (13-1) and Cherokee Trail (11-2) are next at No. 7 and No. 8, while newcomer Chillicothe (16-1) is ninth and former No. 1 Buford (18-2) slipped three more spots to 10th after suffering another loss.
Lutheran (16-2) extended its win streak to 14 games to finally break into the Top 25 at No. 11 and No. 12 Harrison (19-1) is the first of two new Georgia schools this week, along with 14th-ranked South Effingham (16-2).
Gretna East (18-3) and Gretna (16-5) are debuting at Nos. 17 and 19, while Lee’s Summit North (11-6) nabbed the final spot to make its first appearance in the poll this season.
Blue Springs South (10-9), which might be playing the toughest schedule of any team in consideration, dropped out after a week in which it beat then-No. 17 Liberty North last Thursday, but fell to No. 2 Blanchard in nine innings Friday and lost a close contest with sixth-ranked Grain Valley on Monday.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the GameChanger/NFCA Summer-Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
