LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Undefeated Oklahoma teams continue to lead the way in the GameChanger/NFCA Summer-Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, occupying four of the top five spots, the Association announced on Thursday afternoon.
Lone Grove (34-0) is the No. 1 team for a third straight week, after adding a regional tournament title with victories over Bridge Creek and Elk City by a combined 20-0 margin. Blanchard (31-0) remains second, while Broken Arrow (32-0) is fourth and Enid (33-0) is fifth.
Colorado’s Windsor (18-0) is the only non-Sooner State squad near the top, continuing as the No. 3 team, fresh off Monday’s 13-3 rout of then seventh-ranked Erie. The Wizards have been in the top five for all but the first week of the poll, when they were ranked sixth.
Grain Valley is the only other unbeaten squad in the rankings at No. 6. The (22-0) Eagles defeated teams from three different states this week, beating fellow Missouri teams Blue Springs and Kearney, Oklahoma’s Owasso and Nebraska’s Papillion-LaVista South.
Chillicothe (21-1), Cherokee Trail (14-2), Buford (21-2) and Legend (16-2) round out the revised top 10. Legend gained five positions this week to join that first group.
Elsewhere, week six of the rankings proved lucky for No. 13 Holy Family, which joins the poll for the first time this season. The (15-3) Tigers took down then-No. 11 Lutheran, 8-6 on Saturday to make a strong case to be ranked.
Tahlequah (30-4) is also in the mix for the first time, despite being recognized individually with three GameChanger/NFCA High School Player/Pitcher of the Week nods over the past five weeks, with two honors alone for senior pitcher Zoie Griffin. The No. 20 Tigers, led by reigning Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year Griffin and sophomore second baseman Rylee Stark, won four games at their own Tahlequah Festival, then defeated Owasso on Tuesday.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the GameChanger/NFCA Summer-Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
