LOUISVILLE, Ky. – First-time national champion Texas is the unanimous No. 1 team in the final 2025 NFCA/GoRout Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Longhorns (56-12) edged out Texas Tech in a three-game Championship Series to complete a 10-2 postseason run and win the softball program’s first title in its 28-year history.
Texas’ postseason included a sweep of the Austin Super Regional, knocking off Eastern Illinois, Michigan and UCF before coming out on top of a hard-fought three-game Super Regional tilt against No. 11 seed Clemson, winning the final two contests 7-5 in 10 innings and 6-5. A 3-0 start at the Women’s College World Series advanced the Longhorns to their third Championship Series in four years. After splitting a pair of one-run affairs with the 12th-seeded Red Raiders, Texas jumped out to a 10-0 advantage after four innings and defeated Texas Tech 10-4 for the national championship.
The sixth-seeded Longhorns are the second lowest seeded team to win a WCWS and the first SEC softball program to win since Florida went back-to-back in 2014 and 2015. Their 56th and final victory of 2025 set a new single-season program record for wins, surpassing the previous mark of 55 set by the 2004 and 2006 squads.
Texas Tech, which made its first-ever Super Regional and WCWS appearances, shined throughout the postseason. The Red Raiders (54-14), who smashed their program record for wins, won their first eight games of the postseason, sweeping the Lubbock Regional and the Tallahassee Super Regional against fifth-ranked Florida State. At the WCWS, Texas Tech defeated Ole Miss, No. 9 seed UCLA and No. 2 seed Oklahoma en route to the Championship Series.
National semifinalists Oklahoma and Tennessee come in at No. 3 and No. 4. The Sooners (52-9) swept through Regionals and Super Regionals, winning four of the five games by run rule and went 2-2 at the World Series with triumphs over No. 7 seed Tennessee and No. 16 seed Oregon. The Lady Vols (47-17) posted a 7-3 postseason record, sweeping regionals and sneaking by Nebraska in a three-game Super Regional, winning games two and three by one run. In OKC, UT earned its two wins over No. 3 seed Florida and No. 9 seed UCLA.
The remaining four WCWS participants – No. 5 Oregon, No. 6 UCLA, No. 7 Florida and No. 8 Ole Miss, along with No. 9 Arkansas and No. 10 Florida State, who both fell in Super Regionals, round out the top 10. Of the teams that traveled to OKC, it was the Ducks’ (54-10) first trip since 2018. Following their first-ever WCWS appearance, the eighth-ranked Rebels (42-21) earned the program’s highest national ranking after capturing the Tucson Regional (two wins over No. 13-seeded Arizona) and Fayetteville Super Regional (two wins over No. 4 seed Arkansas).
Making their way into the rankings after Super Regional runs were No. 17 Liberty and No. 22 Georgia. The Flames (50-15) became the first team to knock off a No. 1 overall seed and advance to Super Regionals. Liberty, which set a program record for wins, went 3-1 at the Bryan-College Station Regional, which included two victories over No. 1 Texas A&M, the second in the winner-take-all regional final. It is the Flames first NFCA ranking since being 24th in the 2022 preseason poll.
The Bulldogs (35-23) won the Durham Regional, knocking out the host Blue Devils before falling in a three-game Super Regional at No. 3 seed Florida.
