LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Oklahoma’s Jocelyn Alo and University of South Florida’s Georgina Corrick captured the 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA DI Player and Pitcher of the Year awards, respectively.
Alo, a four-time NFCA All-American, had a monstrous record-breaking season for the Sooners. Helping OU to a 2022 national championship, Alo nearly captured the triple crown, topping Division I with 34 home runs and finishing second in batting average (.512) and RBI (85). She also led DI with 1.212 slugging and .646 on-base percentages.
Alo, the two-time USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, capped off a remarkable career as the NCAA’s all-time home run leader with 122 and finished second to Jenny Dalton-Hill (328) in career RBI with 323. The Hauula, Hawai’i native also became the first player to hit 30 home runs and bat .500 in the same season. Alo leaves OU as the program’s all-time leader in home runs, RBI, batting average and on-base percentage. Along with career home runs, she leaves topping the NCAA’s career charts in slugging (.987) and total bases, finishing fifth in runs scored (281) and tied for 18th in hits (343).
Corrick capped off a stellar career with her most remarkable campaign to date. A three-time NFCA All-American, Corrick has amassed an NCAA Division I-best 37 wins (37-5), the most by an USF pitcher since 43 in 2004, 21 shutouts and 418 strikeouts to go along with Division I’s lowest ERA at 0.51. At one point this season, Corrick’s ERA was as low as 0.06 after over 100 innings pitched, including the NCAA’s seventh-longest streak of consecutive scoreless innings at 88.1.
The top-three finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the year held her opponents to a .121 batting average, registered 19 double-digit strikeout games and collected more wins in 2022 than she lost in her entire career. She set new standards for USF pitchers as she posted numerous single-season USF and American Athletic Conference records, including victories, ERA, strikeouts and no-hitters, in addition to over 10 program and AAC career marks.
The Player of the Year award was created to honor the outstanding athletic achievements among softball student-athletes. In 2019, the Association expanded the award to include a Player and Pitcher of the Year.
The awards are voted on by the selected members of the NFCA Division I All-American Committee with one head coach representing each of the NFCA’s 10 regions. To be eligible, a student-athlete’s head coach must be a member.
