LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma continued its stranglehold on No. 1, while Texas swept then-No. 3 Oklahoma State, elevating the Longhorns to No. 5 in this week’s 2023 USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The Sooners (42-1) headed back to Waco, Texas and avenged their only defeat of the season by sweeping then-No. 16 Baylor in Big 12 action. OU shut out the Bears (34-13) 7-0, 4-0 and 2-0 to extend its win streak to 34 games.
The fifth-ranked Longhorns (39-9-1), despite being no-hit into the seventh inning twice, posted a three-game sweep of the Cowgirls (39-8) for the first time since 2016. Texas headed to the seventh inning of games one and two without a base hit and came out with 1-0 (8 inn.) and 3-2 wins. The Longhorns capped off the sweep with a 5-2 triumph sending OSU to its fifth straight loss.
Second-ranked UCLA won four more games, which included a three-game Pac-12 sweep of then-RV Arizona State to run its winning streak to 16 games.
With Oklahoma State dipping to No. 7 following four losses last week, Tennessee and Florida State moved into the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. The Lady Vols (37-5), highlighted by a big sixth-inning rally against then-No. 13 Florida, earned three wins at home last week, two of those coming against the Gators (32-13).
