LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Reigning national champion East Texas Baptist won its only two games this past week to remain the unanimous No. 1 team in the NFCA/GoRout Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The (15-1) Tigers returned home from the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic to sweep York (Pa.) on Friday. They now head to Virginia to play three straight ranked teams later this week at the Cross Bay Bash co-hosted by Virginia Wesleyan and Christopher Newport.
East Texas Baptist plays George Fox (3-1) and the No. 6 Marlins (10-0) on Thursday in Virginia Beach, then faces No. 16 Pfeiffer and the seventh-ranked Captains (12-0) on Friday in Newport News.
Meanwhile, Linfield (9-1) swept its four-game Northwest Conference-opening series with Whitworth to move ahead of Case Western Reserve in the top three. The (7-3) Spartans split two games with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday in California before defeating Bethel and falling to Illinois Wesleyan on Monday.
Rowan (8-0) and Wisconsin-Oshkosh remained perfect at Nos. 4 and 5, and Texas Lutheran (16-0) rounded out a run of five straight unbeaten teams in the top eight. Leadoff Classic champion Redlands (13-2) and Huntingdon (14-2) each moved up another spot this week to complete the top 10.
Elsewhere, Moravian (7-1) and Gettysburg (7-2) continued their strong play to move into the rankings at 22nd and 24th, respectively. DePauw (6-4) won three games over the weekend at the Millikin Tournament and was edged 5-4 in nine innings by No. 19 Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Sunday to go from receiving votes to No. 25 this week.
