LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Texas Glory 16u was voted by their peers as the 2024 ATEC/NFCA Travel Ball National Coaching Staff of the Year, the Association announced on Tuesday.
Head coach Kevin Shelton, along with assistants RJ Howerton, Shayne Williams and Ryan Nicholson, steered the Glory to a 2024 Triple Crown Sports (TCS) 16u national title and an Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series (AFCS) Tier 1 co-championship. They also won the 2023 USSSA American Freedom Fall Invite, 2024 Texas Glory Summer Shootout (co-winners) and the TFL Fall Championship (AFCS Qualifier)
The Glory posted a 75-10-1 record during the 2023-24 season, which also included a pair of second-place finishes at the TPC Fireworks National Power Pool and TFL Summer Championship, along with a third-place showing at the Patriot Games.
Texas Glory, a representative of Region VI, was joined by Saugerties Sonics 16u (Region I), 18u Heartbreakers Gold National (Region II), Carolina Elite - Hahn (Region III), Mojo-Lewis (Region IV), ProX Phoenix 2010 Sampia (Region V), Top Gun National 18u (Region VII), EC Coyotes (Region VIII), Mojo Pikas (Region IX) and Charge Fastpitch (Region X) as Travel Ball Regional Coaching Staff of the Year recipients. The national winner is voted on by member head coaches.
Shelton, Howerton, Williams and Nicholson will be recognized at the NFCA Awards Brunch on Dec. 7 at the 2024 NFCA Convention in Dallas, Texas.
The NFCA is the professional organization for fastpitch softball coaches.
