Type: drill
Purpose: To work on perfecting your location, pitch sequence and endurance.
Explanation: Start with a one-half to one mile jog. go through a typical pitching warm-up (include all pitches). You need to have a scouting report for the specific team you’ll be playing available to pitcher and catcher prior to the bullpen – establish what pitches should be thrown to hitters.
Go through a simulated batting order of hitters you will be facing, and have the catcher keep the count on each batter. The catcher determines balls, strikes and missed pitches. Fat pitches are hits. Have the catcher work in all pitches accordingly and be picky. Don’t settle for average pitches. go through the lineups twice. end the bullpen with spending 10-15 minutes working on whatever was your weakest pitch. Finish with one mile jog.
This bullpen works on preparation for upcoming games. You have an opportunity to work on mixing and perfecting your pitches and get a sense of what you should be throwing to hitters (with the help of previous scouting reports). The pitch you chose to work on at the end may differ from bullpen to bullpen. The mile jog at the end of the workout will increase endurance (physical and mental). This bullpen should be done two or three days prior to the game and should be tough.
