Categories: Base Running Infield Defense Catching

Type: drill

Purpose: To simulate the intensity and speed of a game in infield fungo work.

Explanation: 2 Groups of Infielders: One group plays defense and the other group runs bases. Can also use outfielders.
Players: Entire infield with pitcher and catchers at their positions. Runner placed 20 feet from third base at a cone set up between third and home. Coach hits ground balls to fielder of his choice and runner attempts to score on contact. Defensive player fields ground ball and attempts to throw out the runner at home. Points are kept for each session and loser has sprints, abs, or clean up for the day, etc. Infielders have to really attack the ground ball and the catchers have to really concentrate in order to make the catch and tag with runners trying to score. The runners are also able to work on sliding away from the tages.

We also incorporate that in all other infield work on throws to first, second, third, and bunt coverage.
