Categories: Hitting

Type: drill

Purpose: This drill teaches players to stay "inside" the ball and also to hit the ball deeper in the strike zone.

Explanation: Set up one tee for the batter, and one tee 20 to 40 feet away from the first tee.  Put a ball on both tees.  The batter should set up on the first tee, while putting the second tee in the position of the pitcher.  The batter should then try to hit the ball off of the first tee into the ball on the second tee.  If the players don't keep their hands inside the ball, then they will hook the ball and miss the tee.  Make sure the batter is aligned on the first tee as if she is hitting a pitch down the middle.  When the players get good at knocking the second ball down, we increase the distance between the tees.

We will sometimes set up multiple stations, break into teams, and play a points game. (If you hit the second tee, 1 point; if you hit the second ball, 3 points; longer distances are worth more points.)
