Type: drill

Purpose: Used to help develop two things. First, lead arm extension. Second, the sensation of unloading the wrist properly to deliver the bathead through the zone with a snap and not a drag.

Explanation: This drill can be done using a tee or with soft toss. a mini-bat is preferred, since it is essentially a lead-arm only drill.

1. The hitter takes a good hitting stance holding the bat with her front arm at full extension. The back hand holds the tip of the bat (this being the end of the barrel) approximately next to her back shoulder.

2. With the knob of the bat leading toward the ball, the hitter releases the barrrel of the bat and drives the bat head through the ball, letting the wrist roll only after impact with the ball.

3. The front arm should remain extended all the way through. The “v” comes from the angle produced between the wrist and bat. If the front elbow is pulled in toward the body during the swing, the angle will unload too soon, which will cause the bat to come around the ball and drag each pitch, similar to their game at-bats.
