2010 NCAA Division Women's College World Series - Game 3
No. 15 Tennessee 9, No. 10 Arizona 0 (5 innings) | Box Score
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Freshman Ivy Renfroe of the fifteen seed Tennessee showed upperclassman-like poise on Thursday night by throwing a three-hit shutout against 10th-seeded Arizona, helping lead the Lady Vols to a five-inning, 9-0 victory in the third game of the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's College World Series at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
Tennessee got on the board in a big way in the third inning, scoring four runs despite only having one hit in the frame. Freshman pitcher Kenzie Fowler of Arizona (48-12) walked four batters and was called for two illegal pitches that moved runners in the inning, allowing Tennessee to score two of its four runs.
The lone hit in the third for the Lady Vols was a two-run double from senior Erin Webb that was scorched into right field.
The Lady Vols (47-11) went onto to add three more runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to end the game via run rule in the bottom of the fifth.
Each of Tennessee's six hits on the night was recorded by a different player, while six of the nine runs were scored by the trio of Kat Dotson, Kelly Grieve and Tiffany Huff.
The Arizona offense could find no answer for Renfroe in the game, who allowed no runs with just three hits, no walks and six strikeouts to improve to 30-4 on the year.
Credited with the loss for Arizona was Fowler who lost just her seventh game of the season by allowing four earned runs off of three hits with eight walks and five strikeouts.
Tennessee will now take on the winner of Thursday's final game between Georgia and Washington on Friday at 8:30 p.m. CDT, while Arizona will face the loser of the same match-up on Saturday at 1:30 P.M. CDT.
