The first two innings of game No. 2 were a repeat of game No. 1: scoreless. In the third, leadoff batter Jennifer Stump hit a solo homer that seemed to give Oklahoma some momentum. Washington, though, would follow up in the top of the fourth with a Jaime Clark solo homer to left to tie the game. The score remained tied until the top of the seventh when Washington scored two on a leadoff walk from Dena Tyson, a fielder's choic bunt that left Sarah Hyatt safe at first, a base hit from Aimee Minor and a sacrifice bunt from Amy Hanson that left runners at second and third. Amanda Oleson slapped a double to shallow left field that scored two. Oklahoma would get a runner on in the bottom of the seventh on a stand up double from Leah Gulla, but the Sooners couldn't capitalize.
Washington will play Arizona Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Oklahoma advances to the elimination bracket and will play Alabama Sunday at 11 a.m.
WHAT THEY SAID
"I thought it was an excellent game. We put a run on early. I'm thrilled for us. It's a game of inches, that's why we have to be peaking at the right time, but you also have to get a few breaks and today we got a few breaks. We know we'll have to be at the top of our game (against Arizona)."
"I was hoping. She was beating me inside the whole game. With two strikes, I was looking for anything."
"Definitely going into it we knew Oklahoma would be a tough lineup to go through. I just let the defense help me out."
"We're disappointed because we know the first game is critical to move forward in this tournament. I thought we had a good game plan. I felt it was a game of missed opportunities; we shot ourselves in the foot a few times and ran ourselves out of a few innings. We didn't want to go down like that. These girls are hurtiing right now. Now we'll have to fight our way out of the gutter. These players have a lot of heart."
"I just wanted to get on base. I knew I had to battle. We're not giving up. We still have plenty more games to play. We just know that any team can win."
"I thought we could have done better with the two previous batters. But we're in it to win it."
