LOUISVILLE, Ky. — East Coweta won four more games this week and captured its 15th consecutive regional tournament to continue to set the pace atop the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a sixth straight week.
The (28-0) Indians are among the quartet of ranked teams still unbeaten, which includes the first three schools. Perennial power East Coweta continued its remarkable run in the Northwest part of Georgia by capturing its 19th regional crown over the past 21 seasons. The Indians beat Westlake and Carrollton Tuesday and Carrollton again on Wednesday by a combined 30-0 margin in regionals. East Coweta also blanked Northgate, 13-0, last Thursday.
No. 2 Pocola and third-ranked Gretna both reached 32-0 this week, while No. 6 Broomfield is the other unbeaten squad in the poll at 22-0. The other five teams in the top nine have one loss apiece.
Grain Valley’s 8-7 loss to Platte County on Monday in nine innings caused the (29-2) Eagles to drop one spot to 10th, swapping places with Wesleyan (23-1), which won all three of its contests. Pope (19-8) and Papillion-LaVista (24-9) were the other duo to exchange positions this week, swapping the final two spots in the rankings.
State rankings submitted by the 2024 NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
